PRESENTATION:
HIGH-PERFORMANCE STEEL CONNECTIONS AND EVERYDAY APPLICATIONS
Matt Brady, PE
SidePlate
The presentation will discuss how extreme events have led to changes in the building codes, a better understanding of steel connection behaviors, and how SidePlate connections have evolved to solve these issues. Also discussed will be the influences of connection geometry and load transfer on overall structural frame performance, and how these framing selections impact construction costs. Lastly we will review how SidePlate building designs differ from traditional moment frame designs and traditional contracting arrangements, with SidePlate’s engineers designing lateral connections and assisting the EOR with lateral design, rather than working in a traditional delegated design scenario.
Matt Brady is the Midwest Regional Engineer for SidePlate. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (I-L-L!), he has journeyed through many disciplines of structural engineering, from designing bridges and buildings to forensic engineering and construction management. Before coming to SidePlate, Matt spent eight years being a champion of steel with AISC. Matt is a proud husband and father of four strong young ladies. He loves golf, running, and making food from scratch.
Please note: MNSEA in-person programming has been suspended until further notice.
