Description
Constructability of Precast Buildings
Session 1
The Good and Bad of Precast Podium Construction
By Paul Kourajian, PE
Apartment buildings have been and continue to be a hot segment of the construction industry. Wood framed construction over a fire separation and transfer level of precast is a common way of constructing these structures. This presentation will use project examples to illustrate best practices and will discuss the gravity, lateral and connection systems required for a successful project.
Session 2
Detailing, Innovation, and Quality Control for Precast Concrete Structures
By Ned Cleland, PHD, PE
What’s new in the precast industry? Is the precast being delivered to my site manufactured to the standards I specified? How much detail should I provide on my drawings if each precaster has their own preferred connections? What are the differences in detailing for precast in seismic design categories A to F? All these questions and more will be answered as Dr. Ned Cleland discusses precast concrete structures.
Session 3
Precast Cladding for Today and Tomorrow
By Tom Kelley, PE
How precast cladding is designed and detailed can have a significant impact on the overall cost of the structure. How the cladding attaches to the structure can be different than what the engineer of record assumed. This session will look at cladding for office and ramp structures. Best practices will be discussed for panel sizing, cost efficient load paths, and connections. Ramp cladding design and detailing for vehicle barrier loads will also be discussed. We will close out this session with a look at new precast cladding innovations.
The seminar will provide 3.0 PDH credits. Certificates will be distributed at the end of the seminar.
TRADE SHOW
Suppliers from many areas of the construction industry ranging from fabricators to providers of design tools will be available to update us on products and services. Suppliers will be happy to answer your questions and provide solutions for your every-day challenges.
