Although open web floor systems are very cost effective relative to other floor systems, many engineers have reservations for utilizing them due to a perception of annoying floor vibrations. This presentation will discuss the current AISC Design Guide 11 along with the SJI Technical Digest 5 that addresses how to properly specify these floor systems. Additional topics of discussion will be camber, fire and sound ratings along with other design considerations when specifying a floor system.
Speaker: Ric Anderson is the product engineer for the Ecospan Composite Floor System supplied by Vulcraft. Having degrees from Mississippi State University and Virginia Tech, Mr. Anderson has research and design experience with multiple different types of floor systems encompassing single family residential to high rise construction. He is currently licensed in 17 states along with the District of Columbia.
