Transportation Design Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

The Civil Engineer – Transportation supports the design and delivery of roadway, drainage, and geometric design projects for public, private, municipal, and government clients. This role prepares engineering plans, specifications, and computations, and works closely with clients, municipalities, and internal teams to deliver projects on time and within budget. Senior candidates will also manage projects, lead teams, and mentor junior staff. This position may be based out of any of our Wisconsin offices (Madison, Green Bay, Menomonie, Pewaukee) or our Minnesota office in Forest Lake.

What You'll Do:

Technical Design & Delivery

• Design & Deliver: Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and computations for roadway, drainage, and geometric design using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design tools.
• Research & Resolve: Investigate and resolve design and construction challenges, including assistance with environmental studies, permits, and construction schedules.

Client Collaboration & Communication

• Collaborate & Communicate: Work closely with clients, municipalities, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and exceed expectations.

Leadership & Mentorship (Senior candidates)

• Lead & Mentor: Manage projects, lead teams, and mentor junior staff, contributing to a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Professional Growth

What We're Looking For:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Project Engineer: 3–10 years of experience with PE license or ability to obtain within one year.
• Senior Project Engineer / Manager: 10+ years of experience with PE license (required).

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation.
• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Work Environment

This position may be based out of any of our Wisconsin offices in Madison, Green Bay, Menomonie, or Pewaukee, or our Minnesota office in Forest Lake, with flexible and hybrid work arrangements available. The role may involve occasional travel to project sites and client meetings.
