Our employee-owned and multi-disciplined team has an exciting opportunity available for a Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer (CMBDO). 

As a member of our leadership team, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for overall business development and marketing activities, efforts, and initiatives of the firm. You will be responsible for assessing and improving existing initiatives, and researching and developing new and emerging markets and geographic growth plans. You will also be responsible for guiding firm-wide business development strategies in partnership with CEO and COO, division Vice Presidents, and Market Managers to effectively grow the company and ensure its financial strength. In this position, you will leverage your excellent leadership skills and proven business development expertise to lead and develop a talented team of marketing and business development professionals. 

As the CMBDO, additional responsibilities and expectations will be as follows: 

Business Development:

  • Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and division leadership to cultivate business opportunities across multiple disciplines and markets by developing, leading, and managing relations with respective representatives, officials, and stakeholders.
  • Work in conjunction with CEO and COO to develop and implement the strategy to grow multi-disciplinary regional offices as a strategic component to TKDA growth; collaborate with VPs, market managers and other leadership to develop opportunities and create growth plan.
  • Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Execute marketing and business development programs in coordination with the operations divisions of the organization in achieving desired profit and growth.
  • Enhance business development processes to evaluate viability of prospects, validate market opportunity, and set key performance indicators.
  • Develop marketing and business development strategies for expanding on existing client relations, cultivating relationships with prospective clients, and generating brand recognition in new market sectors.
  • Participate in development, planning, and execution of strategic marketing proposals with the goal of producing winning proposals.
  • Coordinate division memberships in professional organizations, including participation in conferences, tradeshows, and other promotional events.
  • Meet with major and emerging clients on a regular basis to review their satisfaction.
  • Be active in the community and involved with business and social organizations.
  • Serve on Management Committee and provide timely reporting of current Marketing and Business Development performance, initiatives, and opportunities.
  • Provide reporting of proposal progress and results.
  • Routinely report on status of Annual Business Plan objectives and participate in discussions with senior management regarding the organization’s annual business plan targets.

Marketing:

  • Work closely with the President/CEO and COO to set short and long-term strategic business and marketing plans.
  • Promote TKDA’s image internally and externally through effective communications and public relations campaigns (website, social media).
  • Collaborate with division VPs to appraise business development activities through monitoring of new service/product offerings, tracking leads, and evaluating budget conformance.
  • Maintain professional aptitude and acquires industry-specific technical knowledge through continuing education, professional development, attendance of seminars/workshops, participation in local/national organizations, and reading of industry publications.
  • Serve as a leader in educating all TKDA personnel of their role and accountability in marketing and business development.
  • Identify, retain and manage sub-consultants for specialty tasks when needed.

Team Leadership: 

  • Communicate the organization’s goals and objectives to marketing/business development staff and develop divisional objectives required to reach them.
  • Establish a collaborative work environment, promote professional development opportunities, and encourage staff to participate in events and organizations to expand upon existing knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Identify specific responsibilities for the Marketing, Business Development, and Communication staff and assist them with setting goals.
  • Foster employee and leadership development through effective performance management, coaching, individual development, and succession planning; support continuous learning and development.

 Note: Flexible / hybrid work arrangements (3 days in office / 2 days remote per week) will be provided. 

                                                               

Required Qualifications: 

  • Professional expertise demonstrated through 15 or more years of progressive business development  and marketing experience in Engineering or Architecture industry; proven ability to develop client relations and secure project opportunities in existing, emerging, and strategic markets – geographically and industry sectors.
  • Demonstrated abilities of being an entrepreneurial, innovative, and creative thinker with strong business acumen, ethics, and standards.
  • Strong leadership; ability to work within a team and create a collaborative team culture.
  • Strong oral, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient computer skills with use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to grasp and understand business concepts and issues.
  • Knowledge of industry business development and marketing platforms
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with leadership staff and direct reports; ability to establish rapport through frequent communication and interaction; ability to inspire, motivate and lead by example. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or related field.
  • A Master’s degree in marketing or related field or an MBA may be highly desirable.
  • Current affiliation and/or membership with local, state, or national industry organization.
