Our dynamic and successful Planning Group is seeking a full-time Entry Level Transportation and Community Planner. This position would be based in our Fargo, North Dakota office. The Fargo office works on a variety of planning projects for clients throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. As an Entry Level Transportation and Community Planner, you would contribute to a variety of long-range plans and studies, including community comprehensive plans, land use plans, long-range multimodal transportation plans, corridor studies, and hazard mitigation plans. You would also have the opportunity to contribute to ordinance updates, grant applications, development review, and other planning and policy-related projects, as needed.   

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the development of community/transportation plans and studies that guide infrastructure and policy for a variety of public-sector clients (e.g. Cities, Counties, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, State Departments, Tribal Governments, etc.).
  • Gathering, analyzing, and summarizing data (e.g., demographic data, infrastructure data, and geospatial data).
  • Preparing maps and graphics to clearly and visually communicate plan information to Clients and the general public.
  • Participating in and contributing to public engagement efforts and client meetings connected to community/transportation planning efforts. Some travel may be required to attend in-person public engagement events or meetings.
  • Coordinating with other internal functional groups within SRF.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in planning, urban or regional planning, civil engineering or related field (e.g. Landscape Architecture, Geography, etc.).
  • 0 – 5 years of planning experience with a familiarity of geography, land use, and transportation factors that impact the natural and built environment.
  • Desire to obtain an AICP certification.
  • Proven technical writing ability and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and public communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency with Adobe products preferred (i.e., InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro preferred.
