Job Summary

We are posting this at both levels and will fill at the higher level unless no qualified licensed engineers apply.

This position exists to assist the Design Flexibility Engineer and Design Support Section Director with analysis, research, technical writing, and design investigation; and to provide assistance, information and training to MnDOT district offices and the statewide road design community. This includes but is not limited to responding to inquiries regarding Performance-Based Practical Design (PBPD) process and principles; reviewing design memoranda and geometric layouts; aiding in concept and preliminary design development; contributing to training efforts; and generally assisting in the implementation of PBPD and complete streets. Project development activities related to geometric design are to ensure the selection of safe, feasible, practical and prudent alternatives consistent with current departmental policies and design guidance and criteria.
 

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer Grad 2 qualifications:

All applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited College or University and two years professional level civil engineering experience in the areas noted below; (a Master's degree may be substituted for one year of the professional experience) plus applicants must have full completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

AND experience in:

  • Roadway design and/or highway/street project development;
  • A working knowledge of state and national design policies related to geometric design, highway safety, roadway capacity, and practical and performance-based design.
 

Engineer Senior qualifications: Employee must be licensed as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design or be able to obtain licensure through reciprocity;

AND experience in:

  • Roadway design and/or highway/street project development;
  • A working knowledge of state and national design policies related to geometric design, highway safety, roadway capacity, and practical and performance-based design.
