Isthmus Engineering Welcomes John Doan to Lead Transportation Planning Practice

SAINT PAUL, MN (February 11, 2025) – Isthmus Engineering, Inc. (Isthmus) is excited to announce the hiring of John Doan, PE (MN) as a Senior Transportation Planner and Lead of the Isthmus Transportation Planning practice area. In addition to providing project management and expertise on planning projects, he will oversee the development and activities of the growing Isthmus team of planners, engineers, data scientists, and specialists. 



Over his 25-year career, John has worked in both the public and private sector in Minnesota and beyond. He has served in key roles at MnDOT, Hennepin County, consulting firms, on the Metropolitan Council and Transportation Research Board, and as a Lieutenant in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. He is currently a Council Member for the City of Shoreview and Vice President of the Ramsey County League of Local Governments. John is excited to join a talented and diverse firm with a strong local reputation for quality, integrity, and innovation. 

Planning Vision for Isthmus 
The Isthmus planning team offers strong expertise and experience in active transportation, multimodal transportation plans, conceptual design, corridor studies, and community engagement. The team works in close partnership with the Isthmus engineering teams to support the transition of transportation projects from the planning and scoping phase to the design phase. John’s engineering and policy background will support and enhance this collaborative model. 

John’s vision for the planning practice centers around people – users of transportation networks, partner firms, and public agency clients. The team will use a human-centered design approach to help clients find effective multimodal solutions that address safety, mobility, accessibility, equity, climate change, and emerging technologies.
