Description
An overview of the design, production, and installation of an underground precast box stormwater system for a Holiday Station site in Minneapolis, MN. This presentation discusses the process from design through installation of a double-line 12 foot by 8 foot box detention system installed earlier this year in Minneapolis. Come and learn about this simple, yet distinctive, underground structure and how it compares with other treatment systems.
Topics that will be addressed include:
- P8 modelling and site characteristics that led to the selection of a precast box system
- The intended operation of the system and expected maintenance
- Specifying precast box joints with water-tightness as a criteria
- Production considerations and capabilities from the manufacturers perspective
- Proper installation methods including bedding, joint preparation, handling, and placement
- Comparison versus other systems and potential improvements for future projects
Riley Dvorak, a technical resource engineer for Forterra in the MN region, graduated with a BSCE from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Riley has been widely involved in the precast industry since beginning his venture with Forterra in 2012 (Cretex at that time). Since that time, he has held roles in estimating, drafting, production, sales, engineering, and marketing. He now serves as the technical liaison between Forterra and specifying engineers in MN.
