Description
Presentation: The I-35E MnPASS Design Build is a $98 million reconstruction project that includes construction of nine bridges. Design and construction of the corridor, which begins at Maryland Avenue and extends north to Little Canada Road, is occurring now under a fast track schedule. The Ames Team Technical Proposal identified the Larpenteur Bridge as an excellent candidate for MnDOT to utilize Slide-In Bridge Construction for the first time on a Minnesota highway due to its high traffic volumes and importance as an east-west corridor crossing I-35E. A bridge slide is an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) technique which allows for shorter closure durations on busy roadways. The process is as follows:
- Temporary supports are constructed alongside the existing bridge.
- The proposed bridge superstructure is constructed from the beams up including the deck and the barrier rail.
- The existing bridge is demolished.
- The proposed abutments and pier are constructed.
- The bridge superstructure is slid from the temporary supports on to the new abutments and pier.
- The approach panels are poured.
- The bridge is opened to traffic.
Presentation: The presentation will begin at 3:00pm. Please park on the west side of the I-35E Service Road as shown in the link: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9927892,-93.0881233,18z?hl=en
Please bring hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective safety vests for the tour. Long pants and closed toe, hard soled shoes are required.
